DESCRIPTION: Length of carapace up to 6cm. A dark looking and ragged creature, also known as the Four Horned Spider Crab, that is best identified by the convex to pear-shaped carapace, the bifid rostrum and the 5 forward pointing spines on each side of the carapace. The overall colour is brownish red and the creature is usually adorned with bits of seaweed. DISTRIBUTION: Uncommon around the coasts of the UK. HABITAT: In and around rocky shores. TIME TO SEE: All year round. |
